Classroom Expectations

Come prepared to learn and participate with proper supplies.

  • Use class time to complete assignments according to specific instructions
  • Homework – Some assignments may need to be completed outside of the classroom

Be responsible and careful with school property, books, equipment, and materials.

  • The tables are a shared work space.  All person items, backpacks, books, etc. must be placed on the floor.
  • Do not deface furniture or fixtures
  • Proper and complete clean up will be expected at the end of each period.
  • Sink monitors and table monitors will be assigned as needed.
  • Students are to remain in their seats unless they are getting materials or need assistance.
  • Students are not to congregate at the door to wait for the bell.
  • Students should NEVER be in the teachers’ office.
  • Do not leave the classroom without permission from the teacher.
  • Passes will be limited and only given with a qualifying ID Sticker and a signed Agenda.
  • Students must have permission to be in the storeroom, darkroom, or the kiln room.
  • Special permission to use the paper cutter will be given for specific assignments.
  • Do not throw anything in the classroom for any reason.
  • Class room computers may be used with permission and only for art assignments.

Be courteous, respectful and use good manners!  Your self control is appreciated.

  • Students are not to talk during attendance, announcements or teacher instruction.
  • Casual conversation is allowed while working on assignments.  Good work habits must be maintained.
  • Eating and drinking in the classroom is not allowed.  The exception is water in a backpack or on the floor.
  • Use appropriate language along with respectful conversations
  • Student artwork containing subject matter deemed inappropriate for high school will not be graded and will be given to an administrator. [Inappropriate matter is anything involving drugs, alcohol, gangs, satanic symbols, sexual content and/or sexual harassment, etc.]
  • The JHS electronic policy, located on page 31 in the handbook, will be enforced in the art classrooms.

All other all-school rules and procedures are always in effect.

If you have questions about any of the rules, ask for clarification immediately.  We will assume you can and will conduct yourself within these guidelines.  Students who choose not to follow the rules can expect the following consequences and documentation for their inappropriate behavior.

  • See student handbook for possible consequences for violations of any rules or procedures.

    Tardy Policy & Exam Exempt Policy

  • Rules and consequences according to JHS policies and handbook will be enforced.

    Late Work Policy

  • Assignments turned in after the due date will be lowered 1 point per day.
  • After 1 week, the assignments will not be accepted for credit unless an extension has been granted.
  • Unfinished assignments are not graded.
  • Excused absences will be allowed, but not beyond the specified time unless you receive consent from the teacher in case of special circumstances.
  • Students who pre-arrange absences should turn in work and take tests before leaving if possible.
  • Remember, absences greatly affect your grade!

Final Exam Policy

  • Written Final Exams will be given to all students who are not exam exempt.
  • Failure to take the final exam will lower your semester grade by at least one letter grade!

Class Field Trip Policy

  • Class field trips to the gallery are planned during each semester.  Appropriate behavior and school rules must be followed.
  • Students who do not conduct themselves accordingly will not be allowed to attend and sent to I.S.
  • Students who miss the planned field trip are responsible for the assignment that was completed.

Grading Policy

  • Grades are based on projects, written assignments, quizzes, the final exam, and a studio grade.
  • The application of basic concepts introduced in class will be carefully evaluated for each individual.
  • Element of design, creativity, effort/work ethic, skill, and responsiveness are areas of assessment.
  • Assessments – Rubric Evaluations will rate work with points indicating a success level.
  • Studio Grades/Lab Grades – This grade will be recorded at midterm and quarter end, this grade directly reflects the student’s general work ethic, use of class time, materials, clean up, and conduct.
    • Tardiness and warnings will lower the studio grade.
    • Appropriate use of classroom materials and equipment is essential.
    • All areas of grading require your responsible attitude and self-discipline.  Respect and tolerance for others is essential, along with courtesy and good manners.
